Perth gets first CBD-wide free WiFi service

Perth company aCure Technology has launched the city’s first CBD-wide free WiFi service – beating competitors and the City of Perth.

Unlike the many wireless hotspots available in the city, aCure’s wireless technology is a ‘holistic’ service utilising radio antennae, enabling users to connect across the CBD both in and outdoors.

The service is hosted on aCure’s MetroMesh platform, for which the company owns both the hardware and software.

Free WiFi in Perth, Australia central business district

The central business district in Perth, Australia now offers free WiFi service, thanks to local company aCure Technology. The network uses the SSID “metromesh”. The WiFi network has been in operation in the Perth CBD as a paid service since 2006. It is being used as a test bed for Acurix Network’s range of wireless equipment (replacing the old RoamAD equipment).

aCureTechnology has been awarded the free Wi-Fi managed service for the Perth State Library for and additional 12 months with multiple renewal options. Initially installed in 2008, the service has scaled up to cater for the current 27000 login’s per month, and is capable of ever more capacity.

This will be deployed across all the existing campuses and will be used by Staff and Students alike. As CIT is a technolgy hub, it became obvious that the increase in mobility and demand for flexibility would be best satisfied by a metropolitan mesh wireless deployment based on the latest 802.11n architecture.
